Korra also had been training since she was like…3 to be the avatar. So at least there is some reasoning behind her build.

Lmao I didn’t realize girls weren’t allowed to have ‘masculine’ qualities. (Which is a stupid term, anyway. Korra’s buff because she’s - logically - been in training since she was a kid. How does that take anything away from her character or her ability to kick ass?)

Tired of arguing this time and time again. Have a gif, OP.

“Honestly, I’m glad we have an Avatar that’s a carnivore. Why? I’m not sure. I’m just glad.”

…Disregarding that “carnivore” is a term you apply to a species of animal, not just one specific person, I’m pretty sure Korra eats more than just meat; some Inuit diets consist of only animals, but considering she was raised in the White Lotus compound, she’d probably be eating other foods that would keep her healthy. If anything we’d say she’s be an omnivore (plant and meat eater), not a carnivore (solely meat). But again, these are terms we use for a species at large, not just one individual.

Reposting this as not-a-reblog so that the ableist jerks in the Hunger Games tags can see it too.

All the people who liked or reblogged this post really need to take a long hard look at the reasons why they think it is “weird” or unacceptable that Peeta is a disabled character. I’m guessing that the biggest reason why they can’t accept it is because Peeta is one of the two big love interests in the books/film. The underlying assumption is that people with disabilities cannot be desirable.

That’s fucked up. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

It is actually an incredibly uplifting aspect of the books that Peeta is a disabled character who isn’t defined by his disability. It causes him problems negotiating a world by and large designed for abled people, but those problems aren’t really core to his character. He still plays an enormous, active role in events. He even gets the girl at the end. In fact, of all the things that happen to Peeta at the hands of the Capitol, the leg amputation seems to be the least of his problems.

It’s incredibly important that disabled/otherwise-abled people see representations of themselves in the cultural narrative, especially in circumstances where their whole character isn’t about being disabled. However, whenever that happens, there are always going to be simple bitches who complain about how unrealistic it is that anyone could possibly want to be with someone who is disabled (not in so many words, because most people understand that saying something like that is “wrong”, but that’s essentially what their statements boil down to).

Look at how horrible that sounds. That’s how you sound right now. LOOK AT YOUR LIFE. LOOK AT YOUR CHOICES.

And, I think it’s crap that the left this whole character plot point out of the movie. :/

It really, really makes me worry about how badly they’re going to butcher Annie in the films — and the potential regression of her presentation in fandom — if the erasure of characters with disabilities continues in the films.  Both Katniss and Finnick are fierce warriors with extraordinary physical prowess and skill and both fall in love with otherwise-abled people; Katniss with Peeta, who becomes an amputee early on in the series, and Finnick with Annie, who is neuro-atypical.  It’s a repeated motif for a reason and it’s important and beautiful and rare in modern fiction and lovely and it’s really upsetting when people either ignore it or dismiss it as “weird.”

fandom mako ≠ canon mako

fandom mako has often been interpreted to be korra’s super sexy love interest, but we haven’t seen enough of him to determine what his role will be in the actual show

Is it bad that I actually feel this way? For the time being, it’s a topic that’s completely out of the narrative and has no place in Legend of Korra.

you’re not alone
idc if it makes me an awful person, I kind of don’t care about Zuko’s mom :/

NO.

SHIPPERS GONNA SHIP.

LMAO SHIPPERS GONNA SHIP.

Seriously, every time I see a confession or post like this it just makes me laugh. It’s not like we all don’t appreciate any of that - I fucking love all that other stuff with a passion and can barely contain my excitement for it all. Shipping is fun and often interesting to discuss and analyze, and it’s honestly a ton of fun trying to predict what kind of relationships (platonic or not) will occur between all the characters, whether it be between Mako and Korra or Korra and Bolin or Bolin and Pabu, or Tenzin and Korra or Tenzin and Tarrlok or the Chief and Korra, and so on. It’s just that romantic shipping is often the most popular and exciting topic.

So basically, OP, stfu. We’re gonna do what we want.

OP needs to learn to multitask

I’ll gladly dedicate my time to commenting on and analyzing both

“I really hope Korra is NOT paired with either Bolin or Mako. I want the three of them to have a friendship that will never be broken. A friendship where they’ll do whatever they can to help each other. I feel as if she is paired with one, she’ll lose that independence that she seems to radiant in the first two episodes. What’s wrong with having a strong, SINGLE female lead?”

Interesting confession.
Who says they still won’t have an unbreakable friendship in which they mutually help each other out even if Korra is romantically involved with one of them? She just would have different feelings towards one of them, and it isn’t like their whole friendship would be completely ruined. She’d still care for the other brother just as much, just in a different way.
Also, why would you think she’d ‘lose’ her independence? It’s not like she’d suddenly become weak and helpless and have to depend on her man to save her, and I definitely don’t see either brother as the type to try and weigh her down or restrain her from doing what she wants. I don’t think you understand her character very well if you think anything like this would happen.
There’s nothing wrong with a strong, single female lead. But there’s also nothing wrong with a strong female lead that is romantically involved with someone. Bryan and Mike are great writers and storytellers, and I’m sure they’ll write any relationship Korra may pursue very well.

“I refuse to watch LoK. I saw the trailer, and I honestly hate it. Republic City isn’t my Four Nations. It just looks like some cheap way to make more money to me. I feel like I’m the only one who thinks this way. But LoK will never hold up a flicker next to A:TLA.”

Would you like a Special Snowflake Medal?
You’re actually not the only “ORIGINAL MATERIAL > LATEST STUFF” stan out there that’s bitter about anything new that gets released for a fanbase; there are plenty of other hardcore Avatar fans out there that refuse to open their minds to the possibility that hey, maybe the creators know what they’re doing, and unfortunately there are plenty more that will refuse to give Korra a chance before it even starts out of some elitist pride for your fierce loyalty to the original series. But honestly, if you love a show so much that you’ve closed your mind to the possibility of new amazing material, that doesn’t sound very healthy. At least give a shot — a real one, not just “yeah I saw a few minutes and it sucked” or “it’s pretty and all but MY FAVORITES AREN’T IN IT UGH SMH” — before judging.
You’re free to dislike Legend of Korra and you’re free to think Avatar is better based on, you know, legitimate concerns, but hating it based on the fact that it exists in the first place is not a sound or reasonable argument.
